Dominic Smith has carried out several projects at the above address.

Firstly he constructed a large sturdy pergola – then he built an impressive water feature using a millstone. He created a small secret garden (Tuscany theme) with a hardwood deck platform close by.

He advised and planted many specialist trees – and has a good knowledge in horticulture.

Late this summer he relaid the front driveway – unusual block paving and cobbles.

He is also very able in woodwork – he has made cupboards and shelving in garage and store room.

I have been extremely pleased with all his work.

It is with great pleasure that my wife and I commend Mr Dominic Smith to anyone who wants help in designing and developing a small garden.

After our garden was damaged by gales three years ago, Mr Smith recommended a development which involved our buying a number of plants, shrubs and trees. He spent considerable time in helping us choose what should be put in our garden . . . before building several features which greatly enhanced its appearance.

We are very pleased with his work and his commitment.

Reference Letter 3

Dominic has built a water feature pond for us in a corner of our garden comprising three ponds, the pond is set at the top of a ‘rock’ garden and water cascades from there by means of a stepped, narrow stream to a smaller pond that then overflows to the larger, fish holding pond. Electrical wiring for pumps and lighting effects were all installed by Dominic. The effect is a tranquil water fall sound as you sit in the ‘Chinese’ style, planted garden that is surrounded by stone steps forming a circle. This garden is enclosed from the main garden by post and panel fencing to two sides, a wall on one side and a pergola with a grape vine completely covering it as the 4th side. Dominic worked closely with us on design and he alone ordered materials and constructed the whole are which measures 120 sq metres. He also carried out repair work to our swimming pool, paved an area for compost re-cyclers, built gates and hung them in existing fencing to prevent toddlers from entering potential danger areas.

We have been very pleased with Dominic’s work and are sorry that he has chosen to work far away but wish him every success.

I have been asked by the above to provide a reference relating to his employment with me during the 1990’s.

My company deals mainly with the construction side of landscaping but encompasses all aspects when undertaking major projects.

Dominic’s employment with me was coupled with a college course on Landscaping which gave him the advantage of a very wide field of knowledge. Almost immediately Dominic demonstrated a natural aptitude for landscaping and after a short period of time was able to undertake difficult technical tasks with confidence and skill. After Dominic completed his time with my company he went on to finish his college course where he excelled in most if not all subjects.

I consider myself fortunate in having had Dominic as an employee and would have no hesitation in recommending him to others, indeed when the occasion arises we still undertake large projects together even though he has his own very successful company.

It is my pleasure to provide a reference for Dominic who redesigned, landscaped and constructed our garden single-handedly.

We were the owners of a brand new house with a very rudimentary and basic garden, which required landscaping. Dominic was recommended to us. After listening to our basic requirements, he came up with an excellent plan, which included noise shielding from a busy main road and a superb water feature, which is both visually and audibly attractive. He took advantage of an adjacent historic Windmill to design a relevant water feature incorporating a millstone. Dominic also cleverly shielded an unattractive high brick wall, reshaped the garden, planted mature trees, re-contoured a difficult sloping lawn and constructed a fantastic patio, which runs along two sides of our house. In short he has transformed our garden and we receive many compliments on his handiwork.

As indicated above, Dominic not only designed the garden himself but also did all the construction work. He achieved this on time and within budget. During the time he worked at our house we got the opportunity to get to know him well and he is clearly a very pleasant, reliable, conscientious and hard working person. I have no hesitation in recommending him to any prospective employer and would be happy to provide any further information that may be required.

In 1998 Dominic completed a project for us in our garden involving the design and construction of a Japanese style pergola, rock and water features.

Dominic has an impressive knowledge of techniques and materials and a refreshingly honest approach to the business side of things. He has a natural gift for design and knowing what will look right.

Dominic Smith laid the hard landscaping in the garden of our home in 1995 using two different materials renovating an intricate circular and swirling pattern of cobbles. The quality work was of very high standard and my architect husband was able to recommend him to others for work.

As an author of illustrated books, I then commissioned Dominic to lay pavings for it to be photographed for my book, The Decorated Garden Room, which has sold in Europe, America, Canada and Australia.

Dominic always works quickly and neatly for a fair price. He’s also a delight to have around and I can confidently recommend him to anyone needing landscaping work.

This is to confirm that we have employed Dominic on more than one occasion to build a Koi Pond with York Stone Crazy Paving, Construct a York Stone Wall and flower bed and also a raised pebbled terrace.
